Creative Breakfast: Feel Good With a Hearty Bowl of Banana Porridge

Green Banana PorridgeIf you find yourself struggling in the mornings to find something nutritious, but delicious to eat, try a bowl of banana porridge. You can enjoy this natural energy-boosting breakfast in a matter of minutes.

Most times we buy green bananas and have them in the refrigerator until they turn ripe. Instead of keeping them until they become ripened, then throwing them out, make your own green banana porridge from scratch.

Up Your Iron Levels With Banana Porridge

Green bananas are rich in iron. So, if your iron level is low, you can help build it up by drinking banana porridge regularly. Bananas are usually plentiful in the grocery stores. You can buy a good amount and keep them in the drawer of your refrigerator.

Help Green Bananas Stay Green Longer in the Fridge

To keep your bananas fresh and green for weeks, put them in a huge Ziploc bag or keep them in the clear plastic bags that you normally get them in from the grocery store. Keep them in the bottom drawer of your refrigerator. I’ve been doing that for years, and now my bananas don’t ripe up on me anymore.

How I Make My Banana Porridge

  • Wash 3 green bananas.
  • Peel them.
  • Grate the bananas or slice and blend them.
  • Add water to the gratered bananas.
  • Add a pinch of salt.
  • Add cinnamon powder, cinnamon leaves, or barks.
  • Use a whisk or a fork to combine the mixture.
  • Pour in a pot.
  • Stir occasionally in the pot to prevent burning.
  • Boil for 15-20 minutes.
  • Sweeten with the sweetener of your choice.
  • Add nutmeg, vanilla or other spices of your choice.

A Trick to Get Thicker Banana Porridge

If you like your green banana porridge thick, you can add a little flour to it. Make sure you mix the flour with cold water to prevent lumps of flour in your porridge. Add that mixture to  your porridge and let it boil. This delicious bowl of porridge is a quick way to jump-start your day.
