Postpartum hair loss typically happens a few months after giving birth and may last up to 9 months to a year. During that time period, ladies can feel self-conscious about their hair shedding.

According to experts, during pregnancy, the hair that would normally shed, remains in a state called “anagen phase” and becomes thicker and more lush during your pregnancy. Then after childbirth, those same thick, lush hair will start to shed.

After childbirth you may be alarmed at how much your hair sheds. As alarming as it may be, this is considered to be normal. As the estrogen levels drops after birth, you will see more shedding for a short time.

On the positive side, hair shedding in this situation is typically temporary, so at least you know it will end soon. During this shedding season, there are a few things that you can do to keep the remaining hair you have looking fuller and thicker.

REDUCING STRESS DURING POSTPARTUM HAIR LOSS

Even though it’s hard to stay calm, it is best to not stress yourself over losing your hair, as this will only make it worse. Continue to keep stress at a minimal level and eat healthy foods that are rich is iron and other essential nutrients.

STYLING YOUR HAIR AND POSTPARTUM SHEDDING

You also want to stay away from hairstyles that will result in even more damage to the hair. Also, avoid using excessive heat on your natural hair during this hair shedding period. The use of a hair dryer or curling iron is discouraged during this shedding phase.

CASTOR OIL FOR HAIR SHEDDING AFTER PREGNANCY

To help encourage faster and thicker hair growth, use Jamaican black castor oil. For best results, apply the castor oil to your scalp and massaging it in thoroughly. This is also effective for bald or thinning edges. If you do this consistently, in a month or two you should see a a huge difference in the growth of your hair.
