As much as I love my long flowing locs, I do not enjoy feeling it sticking onto my sweaty skin while outside in the hot steamy summer days. So, the only quick solution I can think of, is to find hairstyles that keeps my hair away from my skin.

I usually get creative and come up with my own unique hair designs that works well for me. Some of you may need bobby pins to keep your hair in place, while others who have long locs, can simply tuck in the ends as you twist or wrap your hair.

Some people may be tempted to wash their locs every day, but washing your hair so frequently may not be the best option for you, as it may lead to dry scalp as well as strip the natural oils from your hair.

Another reason why you don’t want to wash your locs every day, especially if they are long, is that they may not get adequate time to dry between washes, and as a result of that, you may end up having mildew or mold in your locs.

Keeping Dreads Fresh and Clean Between Washes

When summer time comes around, we sweat a lot more than normal. Having locs is great, but during this time, it can get smelly and irritating to the skin.

Maintaining healthy scalp and clean hair can be as simple as dipping a cotton washcloth or an old cotton t-shirt into a container of warm water with a few drops of lavender or other essential oils. Witch hazel is also another natural home remedy that you can use to clean your scalp between washes.

Use the damp washcloth to clean your scalp between your parts. Also, use the damp washcloth to clean your dreadlocks. Rinse and repeat, then let your hair dry naturally.
