Revert From Silk Press: How My Silk Press Returned to Natural Curly

Before I did the silk press on my natural hair, in the back of my mind I kept worrying if after I washed my hair it would revert back to my natural curls, as this may not happen if damage is done to the hair during the straightening process. Sometimes reversion may take a little time on certain textures.

CLARIFYING SHAMPOO FOR SILK PRESS NATURAL HAIR

After wearing my soft, silky, silk pressed hair, it was time to return to my original natural hair, so I was more than ready for wash day.

Would my hair revert to its natural texture and curls? That was something I was about to find out. I washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo to remove buildup and then followed with a deep conditioner to hydrate and strengthen my hair.

DEEP CONDITIONING AFTER WASHING SILK PRESS HAIR

To get the full benefits of the deep conditioner, I used a thermal steam cap to open up the hair cuticles so the conditioner can penetrate into the hair strands. This is perfect for when you want to do masks or hot oil treatments on your natural hair.

APPLYING LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER TO NATURAL HAIR

After rinsing out the deep conditioner from my hair, I applied a leave-in conditioner with natural ingredients. When applying leave-in conditioners, make sure to massage it in your hair thoroughly so it can distribute evenly from roots to ends.

DID MY WASH DAY GO AS EXPECTED?

My natural wash day turned out exactly as I wanted it. I was pleased to see that after washing my silk press hair, I got my natural curls and texture back.

Even though my hair looked healthy, I’m not going to push my luck and straighten it too often. It is best to give your hair time to breathe before applying more heat by straightening it.

If you do decide to silk press your natural hair, it doesn’t have to be a negative experience. Just make sure that you follow the haircare rules and you’ll do just fine. Have fun on your silk press journey!
