10 Things Not to Do That’s Stopping Your Locs From Growing Faster

Fast Locs GrowthIf you want your locs to grow faster, you’re going to have to put some real work in. In the natural hair community, growing our hair longer is one of our goals. Want to find out the mistakes that you may be making that’s stopping your dreadlocks from growing faster? Stick around for more information.

In some cases, having longer hair gives you the opportunity to do a variety of locs hairstyles, rather than when it’s short.

For example, when I just started growing my dreads, they were short and wasn’t easy to style. I enjoyed wearing them loose, but depending on the occasion, I wanted them to be neater or up in a bun.

As time time went by, my locs grow longer and I didn’t even have to use hairpins to keep them in place when doing some locs hairstyles. I simply tuck the ends into each other to keep them in place.

Things Not to Do If You Want Faster Growing Locs

Using the Wrong shampoo: Choose your shampoo carefully. Believe it or not, your shampoo makes a difference in faster hair-growth, especially on hair that’s locked.

Using the right dreadlocks shampoo to wash your hair is one of the first steps in promoting faster locs growth. You want a shampoo that’s not going to leave any buildup within the strands of your locs.

Not Moisturizing Your Locs: If you want your locs to be dry and lifeless, don’t moisturize it. That is exactly the result you would get if you don’t hydrate your hair on a regular basis.

To grow your locs faster, do moisturize your hair regularly. This is even more important if you live in an area where the temperature is hot. Your hair will lose moisture faster than you can think.

Fill your spritz bottle with a combination of natural essential oils, and spritz your hair every day. Water is your hair’s best friend.

No Root Stimulation: If there’s no stimulation of your roots, your hair-growth will be stunted. It will barely move from the length it was a few months ago.

Root stimulation is an important part of getting your locs growing faster and healthier. There are different ways to stimulate your roots. You can use a hair scalp massager to improve blood circulation. The massager not only will stimulate faster hair growth, but also remove buildup, dead skin cells, and leave your scalp feeling rejuvenated.

Not Oiling the Scalp: Your scalp needs to be nourished in order to produce longer, beautiful natural hair. For people with dry, itchy scalp, not oiling your scalp may slow down the growth process of your locs even more.

To speed up hair growth, use natural oils to nourish your scalp. Oils such as organic castor oil and coconut oil are rich in vitamins and helps to nourish and hydrate the scalp, promoting faster hair growth.

Not Covering Your Locs at Nights: If you don’t cover your hair before going to bed at nights, your locs will lose moisture as well as become weak, leading to hair breakage. Obviously, this won’t help hair growth.

The best thing to do is to set a nighttime routine for proper protection of your hair. It is recommended that you sleep on a satin pillowcase or cover your dreads with a satin sleep bonnet before going to bed. Your hair will thank you in the morning, as it won’t lose any moisture, and your style will still be intact.

Wearing Tight Hairstyles: Another thing that you may be doing that’s preventing your locs from growing faster, is wearing hairstyles that pull and break your hairline. These styles may look great, but in the end, your edges won’t be looking so sleek.

Choose hairstyles that are not too tight. I know that you want your hair to look good and stay styled for some time, but it’s not worth damaging your hair just for few days of fashion.

Not Treating Your Edges Right: We all love our edges and want them to grow with the rest of our hair. So, we should treat them right just the same.

Inadequate Vitamin Intake: Sometimes we get so caught up with only taking care of outside of our bodies, and forget about taking care of the inside, too.

We need the right amount of vitamins to promote fast locs growth. Eating healthy food, fruits, and veggies, with the right amount of essential vitamins is a great way to boost the growth of your locs.

Stressing Too Much: Some stress is good, but too much stress can make your body break down and may even let your hair fall out.

It’s easier said than done, in some cases, but try to stay away from negativity. This could mean that you have to spend less time around some people, simply because they give off too much negative energy. Even being on social media too much can stress you out. Take a break and spend time with yourself. Being alone doesn’t mean you have to be lonely.

Not Palm rolling: Although palm rolling may not necessarily promote the fastest hair growth, it is still something that can benefit your locs, especially the new growth.

I think the palm rolling method is much more gentle and beneficial to the new hair growth. That’s the method I’ve used over the past 4 years when I’m retwisting, and it seems to work for me. Also, my locs used to be bumpy, but with palm rolling, they have grown more smoother.

When you’re re-twisting your dreads, you don’t want to grasp the new growth and pull it so hard that it breaks. With the palm rolling method, you simply palm roll your locs, starting from the roots, new growth and all, and smoothly roll the loc between your palms in the direction it was originally twisted. In addition to this, when I palm roll my locs, my hair looks longer and smoother.
