Grow Longer Locs With Natural Remedies

My locs are growing faster and I am so pleased with them, so I decided to share some of my simple tips that I use to get them to this length. For all the people who are growing dreads, you know how much hard work it is to get them to the stage where they are fully locked. Not to mention the rude comments that people say, especially during the “ugly phase.”

A few weeks ago I saw someone with locs all the way to the middle of their back, so I decided to be a bit nosy and asked how long they were growing it for, and they told me it was for over 5 years. That’s where I want to be in 5 years. Anyway, let me move on with the remedies I use to grow my locs faster.

I found out about Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor for awhile now, and have been using it since then. As a matter of fact, the last one I bought is almost finished, so it’s time to buy a new one. This brand of castor oil is known to be the best since it’s all natural. When I was a child my mom used to use it to oil my scalp and hair, and my hair was so thick and healthy, until I started putting all these different chemicals in my hair.

Now that I find out about this old time home remedy, I am stuck on using it. This brand of castor oil is dark and thick, which is great, so I normally dilute it with a mixture of other oils. I use Africa’s Best Ultimate Herbal Oil. Keep in mind that there are other blends of oils in this brand, but this is the one that I would recommend to mix with the castor oil for your locs.

It not only soften your hair, but it also leave it smelling fresh and disguise the strong smell of the castor oil when mixed together. It has a soothing and refreshing scent, similar to baby oil. I use it on my skin too and the smell last for hours.  It’s a great feeling when you find a good product and it feels even better when you can share your knowledge with others.

How I Use Castor Oil to Grow My Locs

I use castor oil a few different ways. Every 2 weeks I use the plain Jamaican black castor oil to treat my hair. I usually don’t mix the oil at this point. I just pour it a small container and use my finger tips to apply it to my scalp. Simply move each strand of loc apart from each other and apply an ample amount of castor oil using the tip of your pointer finger.

Keep applying the oil section by section until all your scalp is oiled. Gently use your fingertips to massage the scalp. Pour some of the oil in your hands and rub both palms together, then apply it to your head of locs. Massage it in gently, and then place a shower cap over your head. Make sure that no hair is left uncovered. You can sit under the dryer for at least 10 to 15 minutes to build up some steam under the cap or you can keep the cap on while you’re doing your other chores.

I keep my shower cap on for hours, if I have nowhere going  that day, so that the castor oil can deep treat my scalp and locs. Make sure that you use warm water to wash your locs, so that  no greasy build-up of oil or residue is left behind.

Another way to use castor oil to grow your locs faster, is to drop a few drops in a spray bottle with some water, as well as the Africa’s Best Ultimate Herbal Oil. I add half cup of water to a small spray bottle, then add at least 4 drops of castor oil and 3 drops of your favorite herbal oil or the Africa’s Best oil. Shake the mixture together and spray your dreads with it.

To keep your hair moisturized, especially in the hot summer months, spray your hair each day with this oil blend mixture. Too much oil can attract dust and lint, so make sure that you don’t add too much oil to the water.

Massaging your scalp regularly can also stimulate the hair follicles and promote faster growth for your locs. If you have baby locs, you may want to hold off on the massage part until they are more mature. Don’t forget that eating the right food is also essential. Vitamins such as iron is also known to encourage hair growth.

Keep checking in for more  useful information on loc maintenance and updates throughout my journey, and don’t get frustrated if your hair is taking forever to lock, it will get there. Believe me, I’ve been there, it gets better as they mature.
