The Pros and Cons of Having Locs – My Story

My Locs Hairstyle

It’s been a long journey for me and my locs, but it’s only getting better. Long gone are the days when I used to be afraid that if I wash my dreads they were going to pull right back out or dealing with the frustration of not being able to put my hair into a ponytail. However, I must tell you that it was not an easy road. Some days my hair was just like a huge fuzz ball. Thankfully,  it’s almost two years now, and I have seen some great changes.

December is going to be two years since I’ve decided to loc my hair, and it has really grown a lot. I’ve been consistently using the Jamaican Black Castor Oil to massage my scalp, as this helps to stimulate the follicles and promotes faster hair growth. The longer my hair grow, the more styling options I have. Although my locs are growing at a steady pace, there are still some pros and cons that I have to deal with.

Cons: Coming up with Creative Hair-styling Ideas

It’s great to feel the new growth in your roots, and to see the length of your locs progressing, but there is always this challenge of figuring out what to do with your hair some days. There are times when I don’t retwist my locs, instead I just moisturize it and put a headband on, and off I go. All I care about is that my hair smells nice and clean.

Pros: Embracing my Hair Growth

Now that my hair is long enough to put in a ponytail, I simply just braid it backwards and use a strand or 2 of loc to wrap around my hair. This is so convenient. No more hair flying all over the place and having to deal with split ends. I am so happy I decided to get locs. The convenience makes me keep falling in love all over again with my beautiful head of locs.

Cons: Your Shampoo Won’t Last Too Long

The more your dreads grow and thicken, the more shampoo and conditioner you will need. The conditioner doesn’t really finish too fast for me, but the shampoo is always the one to finish first. I don’t know if it’s because my locs are matured and I don’t have to worry about them becoming loose, why I find myself washing them more often now. I am almost out of shampoo and need to stack up on some more.

Thinning Locs Solution

I’ve heard a few people complaining about thinning locs as their hair gets longer. So far I haven’t experienced that issue. I usually do my research well and have found out about the Pura d’or Premium Organic Argan Oil Anti-Hair Loss Shampoo, which is great for those of you who are suffering from thinning hair or hair loss.

They also have the conditioner to go with it as well. When both are used together you normally see better results. Check out the Pura d’or Premium Organic Argan Oil Hair Conditioner. Both the shampoo and the conditioner have great reviews on Amazon, and the ingredients are natural, without the harsh chemicals that can cause severe damage to your hair.

Overall, I love my locs and they are definitely not going anywhere soon. Stay tuned for more tips on loc maintenance and more. You can also check out some of my older posts, going back to before I had locs.
